slightly updated setup
« on: November 16, 2008, 12:34:02 PM »
as it was a dry sunny day yesterday. i thought i would fit up my channel master dish that i have had boxed up for quite a while.

one thing that i under estimated was drilling out the slots on the t&k brackets to fit 3 inch u bolts, the steel was solid and my rubbish drill didn't help, so in the end i ended up using a hacksaw and metal file to clean up the slots.

the pole is 3 inch, with 24inch T&K brackets. Also my zone 2 minidish with altered back bracket to take 3 inch pole.

the dish is temp fixed to 1west as i didn't have time to fit the 1224 yet, i wanted to see the football at 3pm.

couple of pics below

any comments welcome, i know the cabling is a bit messy lol

Yeah, I like it. The CM is a quality dish of course and isn't too conspicuous.

I'd have that pole all the way up to get the dish above the gutter and the 1224 on before the day was out personally  :D

I'd also use an extra T/K bracket to be sure.

yes I'm thinking of putting above the guttering to get a full swing.

need some new ladders before that though  :(

I'm going to replace the t bracket with a k bracket though as that might be a weak point at the bottom

also the dish is not a 1.2 just 90cm for time being, to test the waters with neighbours

I know I've probably asked you this before, but can't you put a non-pen mount on the flat roof to secure a 1.2m?

i probably could i just need a few days to check that out there is a large tree in the neighbours garden which is why i put it up that high as i thought i need to get over it ?

the flat roof mount is a possible one and make the pole 1.5m ish might do it

Only one way to know for sure mate...  ;)

Got to be worth a go. It has to be the best bet I reckon, assuming you have line of site.

i don't mind trying but these flat roof mounts cost quite a lot and if it doesn't work out then I have wasted some money

the 28e dish is lower down as that is ok for line of sight

maybe i just keep it where it is for now,

Bodge something together on one of the infamous 'tyre' mounts or similar before splashing the cash.

Here's one I prepared earlier!

It cost me about ten minutes construction time and not much else.

That mount is embarrassingly good.

in the pic where the sky dish is now, i had a dish on diseqc motor but the signal seemed rubbish so i moved it up a foot and it was better

i will take some pics of the view as i think personally it will be a waste of time

also having the dish lower down the satellites from 15west get iffy as houses over the back get in the way

the motor is now up but i don't think the alignment is right as i can get 1west very well and 8west

also think the motor wires in vbox is wrong way around as I'm not sure which way the motor is going as its too dark now

also how do i reset the motor to zero with the vbox as i've now lost 1west for the boxing tonight

that flat roof mount idea i'm going to check out though

I would just use the DiSEqC drive motor East/West commands until you get 1W locked for now - at least until after the fight!

satelliteman, yes it is the 1224 motor with adapter plate for channel master dish

i have 1west back now and got it stored on the receiver/positioner

the 1224 is a bitch to fit as there is all these bolts and things to adjust

i put it on the pole and with an angle finder set up the elevation and then bolted the dish on

i loosed slightly the top two bolts on the offset flanges and connected my horizon meter and got 80db, 98% quality on 1west and tighted up.

have you fitted one of these before ? got any tips

i found that i could get 8west because i was setting up the usual 19,16, 13 etc but the dish was going the wrong way that is now sorted and its too dark to check any more
